As outdated and inefficient as floral delivery is in the US today, there’s something we find even more disturbing. We see a new study almost every week that shows how unhappy people are with work. Seeing as how we spend a majority of our waking hours at work, to us it didn’t seem like a good formula for happiness. Although more difficult, we’re dead set on creating a team that loves what they’re doing. We also expect you to help us continue that for those who come after you. We’re out to prove that a happy team means happier customers, and doing well gives us more resources to invest back in our team to do good.

Operations Associate (Part-Time in DC and New York City)

The Operations Team

Operations Associates are the backbone of the operation - not only do they get gifts out the door, but they’re up-close and hands-on with each and every one. Working with the Operations Lead, you’ll #SendHappy every day, ensuring on-time preparation so every step of the delivery process goes smoothly. This is an entry-level position and is a great opportunity to learn about UrbanStems! You’ll gain hands-on experience working directly with every team in our family - from marketing and design to product or delivery, the operations team connects it all.

The Gig

Operations Associates are the backbone of the operations - not only do they get gifts out the door, but they’re up-close and hands-on with each one. Working with the Operations Lead, you’ll #SendHappy every day, ensuring on-time preparation so every step of the delivery process goes smoothly.

What You’ll Do

  • Gets gifts out the door - you’ll prepare and package orders, taking care to make sure the specifications of every gift is fully met.
  • Directly own product quality in the Fulfillment Center - if it’s redressing floral arrangements or pulling stems so only those blooms that meet our standards, you have the green thumb and the keen eye for detail to do this.
  • With the Operations Lead and General Manager, manage physical inventory.
  • You’re responsible for your Fulfillment Center’s mise en place - you’ll set the scene for the next hour, the next day, and the next week.

Essential Job Functions

  • Must be able to bend and lift up to 49 pounds repetitively.
  • Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to cool temperatures (walk-in refrigeration unit).
  • Must be able to push, pull, squat, bend, and reach above and below shoulders. Repetitive use of hands.
  • Must be proficient with office technology (printer, computer, internet browsers, software, etc)
  • Punctual attendance is critical. Your timely, reliable and regular attendance is required.
  • Evening, weekend and holiday work, as required. Must be able to work in a high-paced fulfillment center environment with strict deadlines.

You’ll work on Safety, Quality, Receiving, Delivery, Inventory, and maintaining a clean working environment. You’ll open and close the warehouse as scheduled ensure days run smoothly to get all shipments processed timely. You’ll work to communicate with operations and customer service staff.

What You’ll Do

  • Following the production schedules outlined by management and process all product with focus on safety quality, recipe content and all other specifications as outlined.
  • Receiving floral and non-floral products; unpacking, counting, inspecting, storing, reporting, and fixing quality of inventory issues throughout the day, while communicating issues to management.
  • Implementing and testing scalable practices for growth in the warehouse. Helping to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), while ensuring that best practices are being followed and that goals are being met or exceeded.
  • Reporting sell-outs, adjusting spoilage dates, and maintaining up to date inventory systems and spreadsheets.
  • Other responsibilities and tasks as designated by management.

Our main objective is to #SendHappy. Our delivery associates - you can call them couriers, bike messengers, whatever you like - are the last mile of our entire experience. You’ll get to know the ins and outs of the city as you ride and delivery happiness. You will represent the company when you are making deliveries and your skills will help the team grow faster.

Senior Operations Associate - DC

The Senior Operations Associate is the go-to contact for the day-to-day operations at our fulfillment center. You'll open and close the fulfillment center, and make sure the days run smoothly to get all products out the door. You'll have a hands-on with focus towards safety, quality, delivery and cost control. You'll also guide communication between operations, delivery and customer service teammates.

What You’ll Do

  • Reinforcing performance and cultural expectations amongst fulfillment center staff
  • Develop, train, and hold staff accountable on Standard Operating Procedures for market growth
  • Owning all inventory-related processes, such as end-of-day adjustments, reordering, transfers, etc.
  • Owning quality assurance process and holding staff accountable in doing so
  • Lead necessary fulfillment center training for new hires
