Care Instructions
Light: Your Calathea wants bright filtered light. Ideally, place your plant 1 - 3 away from a southern-facing window. Eastern exposure can also work if the plant is set close to the window. Morning light is generally less intense than afternoon light.
Water: Calathea is sensitive when it comes to moisture. Water your plant when the top 1 - 2 inches of soil are nearly dry to the touch. You’ll probably find that this is about every 6 - 8 days, but the actual cadence will vary depending on the environment in your home. We also recommend misting 2-3 times a week or placing the plant near a humidifier. Some plant parents use a little tray of pebbles & water under their plants. The evaporating water increases humidity while the pebbles or rocks keep the plant lifted out of the water so the soil isn’t constantly wet.
Notes & Tips: Different types of calathea have different nicknames depending on their leaf pattern. Calathea Ornata is called “Pinstripe Calathea,” while Calathea Lancifolia is called “Rattlesnake Plants,” and Calathea Makoyana is called “Peacock Plants.”
Pet Safety: Calathea is not pet-safe. Place yours on a high shelf away from furry companions.
